Clarendon Palace
I called in on this ruin whilst travelling back from the weekend in Dorset. It is in my book of Wild Ruins and well worth seeing despite the trek to get to it. In fact it doesn't look much but its history is amazing. The current structure dates from mid 13th century and was once the home of Kings. During the reign of Henry II the Assize of Clarendon passed a law that transformed Trial by Ordeal to trial by evidence and enquiry, leading the way to our current system of trial by jury. It was quite emotional looking at the remnants of a once great place and feeling the power and majesty that had been there.
The heads of a family of llamas popping up in the surrounding ground gave a surreal air. (extra)
