PINKTOBER 8 & MONO MONDAY - WOT - NO BABY?

Mr. HCB was feeling much better this morning, but is still sniffling, but decided that he would still go to the surgery as he was due to have his shingles injection.

When we got there, we had to go upstairs to wait for the nurse, and I saw this delightful baby seat - and as I said to Mr. HCB, “Blip done!”  We guessed from the noise emanating from the room down the corridor that the baby was also having an injection and before long two anxious-looking parents appeared with a crying baby, no more than a few weeks old.  I must admit didn’t ask for their permission to use the seat, as I guessed no-one would recognise the baby from the seat!

Rachel, the nurse we both like as she is brilliant at giving injections, then invited us into her room and Mr. HCB rolled up his sleeve, ready for the injection.  However, after checking the computer screen, he was told by Rachel that he was not eligible for the shingles jab.  Apparently, they are only given to those who are 70 or 78 years old because there is a shortage of vaccine so they are not allowed to give the injection, and would not get the funding from the NHS, to those who do not fit this criteria.  My response (having had the injection myself) was how much more would the NHS have to pay out if Mr. HCB did, in fact, contract shingles?  The nurse just raised her eyebrows and didn’t need to say anything!  As we left, she did consult another nurse, but they both agreed that Mr. HCB was not eligible.

After that, we went to Jack’s for coffee, not having been there for a few weeks and were happy to meet our friend, Trevor, who said he was delighted to see us again as he had almost forgotten what we looked like!
