Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run Day 3
We drove through the night through Wales, controls stops at Gledrid and Monmouth services at either end! It's this stage of the event the tiredness can really kick in and we increased the frequency of driver swaps allowing everyone to grab a bit of sleep in-between. The M5 blast down to the South West always seems long and pretty much the only cars you seem to encounter are Triumphs. After Exeter we switched onto the A30 and headed for the bottom of the country.
Arriving at Lands End is always a relief and we were treated to a beautiful bit of sunrise colour as we parked up. Breakfast was served and then it was time to crack on. Control stops on the Sunday are great as each of them give a friendly welcome to some very tired crews. Bude Castle first, then Badgers Holt at Dartmeet where it was fab to meet up with fellow blipper RockArea and Lady Marion (thanks for coming down, good to see some more photos too!).
Pimperne Village Hall (near Blandford Forum) control stop is fairly legendary on these events as the home made cakes are always great and ample in quantity. On across the country then and as the light began to go we were past Oxford and to the final control stop at Turweston Airfield near Brackley. Here, the marshalls actively encouraged us to make the most of a bit of privately owned road space and we had a few minutes being photographed and filmed driving with the police lights and sirens running on the car.
A final run then from Turweston back to Knebworth House in Hertfordshire. At around 8pm, 1,957 miles after we started we completed the event. The main beam headlight circuit decided to blow its fuse 20 minutes before the finish but other than the passenger side doors getting increasingly difficult to close, we had no issues with the car at all.
An amazing experience once again, brilliant planning, marshalling and organisation from Club Triumph. A big thank you as well to our new driver Sarah who had never done one of these events or even driven our car before the start. At time of typing, the event has raised over £63,000 for Epilepsy Research which makes it feel all the more worthwhile, anyone wishing to add to this can do so here.
Yesterday back-blipped.
Fellow blipper MartinN was in one of the two sister cars in our mini team of three, look out for his photos later.
