Race Day...

...at Old Warden. And what a treat it was, The Shuttleworth Collection Race Day is the last major event of the year and as you might guess I was up early and looking forward to a fantastic day.

In addition to all the usual (and some unusual) aeroplanes and cars a huge number of Classics were brought by their owners to show off their machines and take part in the 'Sprint' along the runway.

The car in the photo was an amazing sight... Built in 1933 the Napire-Railton is powered by the high compression version (6.1:1) (RAF specification) of the naturally aspirated Napier Lion, a W12 of 23.944 litres.

Between 1933 and 1937 the Napier-Railton broke 47 World speed records at Brooklands, Montlhéry and Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Purchased by Brooklands Museum in 1997 with the support of the UK's Heritage Lottery Fund and other donors, it is maintained in fully working order and is normally on display in one of the museum's 1930s motoring sheds. The car is run regularly and is a fabulous thing to see and hear.
