Bentham

A lie in this morning and then a very full days ride out on the bike.Late setting off so decided to just head for the Trough of Bowland. The countryside is wild and sparsely populated and not overrun by walking types. The roads are narrow and demanding but fun on a motorbike.

It takes me just under an hour to get from home to Whalley on the M6 so a stop at one of my favourite cafes when out on the bike.Cafe Autisan is an enterprise that employs autistic people working in the cafe. The food and service is excellent and it is pictured in the extras.
After a good lunch headed for Slaidburn and took the Bentham road out of the village to see The Big Stone (The Big Stone of Fourstones) which may be an Erratic left behind as the glaciers receded. From the site of the Big Stone you get a fine view of Whernside,Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent.I like the Celtic name for Pen-y-ghent which is Penygwynt (the Head of the Winds)
A circular trip back to Slaidburn and another favourite cafe for a cup of tea and sausage butty before the ride home.Home late after talking in Slaidburn for an hour with Brian who was riding a beautiful old Yamaha 440.

Overall a very good day if a bit cold on the bike.

Overcast,breezy and cold.
