Record shot
Record shot is birder parlance for a rubbish photo that, at least, does prove you have seen what you have claimed to see. Aside from the Lapwing in the background, this is a Lesser Yellowlegs flying around a field on South Uist when it should be in South America. It is a funny shape for a wader and the photo does at least show this, as well as the square white rump.
Slightly amazingly, in the same field was another species of American wader - a Pectoral Sandpiper. I hasten to add I found neither myself.
High excitement later in the day as, with some fresh fuel, I got the strimmer working and have started cutting some of the areas left by our gardener. Hopefully it will green up a little before winter sets in.
