Dree oktober

What a great night. A couple of Dutch colleagues took my and the boss out to Leiden for the local 3 oktober festival (to commemorate the end of a siege of the city by the Spanish in the 16th century).

Normally I don’t like crowds, but this was great. After looking initially like a rubbish carnival from the train, it looks like it takes over the whole town, with drink and food vans all over the place, and music stages at almost every corner.

The shot was where we spent the end of the night, on a platform floating on top of a canal, with a bridge turned into a stage. Along the way we drank plenty beer, ate poffertjes (one of my new favourite things), oily balls (essentially deep fried balls of dough), war fries (chips topped with peanut sauce and mayo), and I indulged in some traditional herring.

A chance to see the Dutch truly letting their hair down, and so fun to be part of it.
