Chloropus

Ollie dog and I walked around Seventy Acres Lake and hardly saw a soul because the road from the Waltham Abbey direction was closed. The only dogs we met were a bouncy standard poodle on a very long orange lead and a little white terrier called Amos of all things. :)

I got some quite nice images of six little egrets perched in a tree at Hooks Marsh but have decided to post the moorhen above as I love its green feet. I was delighted to learn the derivation of its scientific name. "The scientific name Gallinula chloropus comes from the Latin Gallinula (a small hen or chicken) and the Greek chloropus (khloros χλωρός green or yellow, pous πούς foot)"
