Sweet and Juicy?

When I was a little girl, a greengrocer's van used to come a couple of times a week.

My Mum used to always ask if the oranges were 'sweet and juicy', the greengrocer would quick as a flash, slice up an orange and give her a slice, to prove they were.

I found this wizened old tangerine lurking in the kitchen this evening and it reminded me of Mum and the greengrocer's van. Mr H told me he didn't think it would be sweet and juicy.

I should also add that our lovely greengrocer used to pick up and bag the cream cakes with his tattie-mud stained hands that had ounces of dirt under the nails. It wouldn't happen these days, however, we all ate the cream cakes and lived to tell the tale.
