Hedgehog Escape Committee

I thought it might have been a fox digging up our gravel to get into the back garden but thinking about it a fox would go over a fence rather than do this.
We've seen a large hedgehog in our garden a few times, just a few nights ago he didn't even curl up but looked around at us with his pointy face when I shone the torch on him.
I'm not bothering to put the gravel back, why give him all that work to do when he's doing me a favour by eating the slugs and snails.
