Facing North, Looking East

We went to a memorial service for a neighbor today. Her son lives across the street from us, her parents lived a few more blocks away, her husband's family all from St Johns, too. It was a gathering of long-time residents. Nice, long slide show along with plenty of Simon & Garfunkel and the Beatles. Held at the St Johns Batchelor's Club.*
She battled kidney failure for seven years; mid-sixties.
After, we drove as far as we could on Sauvies Island and sat on a quiet, deserted, sandy bank of the Columbia for quite awhile. Soothing.
It's always hard for me to keep directions straight here; not at home, just on this island. I know the Columbia runs north for quite a ways before heading west again to finish up at the Pacific, but it never seems that way.

*St Johns Batchelor's Club: "We hold weekly meetings and have monthly functions such as Super Bowl, Halloween Party, Kid's Picnic, and many more, most being open to the public by invitation of a Bachelor Club member. We support select community organizations and are in turn supported by our monthly functions, membership dues, and leasing our clubhouse to the community to support their needs."
