Stacks and strange times
We went to one of my favourite fosses this morning, Skogafoss. It is always hard to get a good shot of it because people like to walk up close which you can do if you don't mind the spray and are always in the way. It was raining then too. I have come prepared with microfibres to wipe the lens, rainjackets for the camera and a brolly (purchased at Urquart castle) but the spray was horizontal this morning so it was tough going.
From there we explored a glacier. Despite a sign saying do not go any further, we noticed a group of people further down and so ventured further. In English the glacier is known as the Sun Glacier. Sadly retreating.
From there we noticed people walking down this track which I thought may be to the beach. It was in fact about a 6 - 7 km walk return to a US Navy plane which had run out of fuel in 1973 and landed there with no loss of life. The weirdest thing was that all these people who had walked that distance wanted to get up close and personal to the plane. Many were climbing on top to have their photo taken, or sitting on what were once the engines. I confess to having desires that someone would fall off. I couldn't see the attraction to clambering all over it. Anyhoo, I have cloned them out and put it up in the extra.
From there we went to one of my favourite places. This is the stack looking East and where the far sea stacks are and around the corner is where we are staying in Vik with the bad wiffy. Anyhoo, hopefully this will load OK.
Tomorrow we move on. We both got soaked coming back from the plane but were mainly dry by the time we finished with the stacks because of the hoolie which air dried us. We have had all sorts of weather today and there is snow on the peaks and snow forecast later this week.
