THE MIGHTY . . .
. . . REDCAR.
“Welcome to Redcar”, begins the sparky voiceover of local teen Madison Cooper. “Our steel built the world. Our fish fed families across the country. Our seaside was the place you came to on holiday. But that’s all gone now …”
My Blip today shows only TV screens . . . but what a tale they tell. This is a real story . . . of local everyday folk living in a world devastated by modern life . . . yet striving for progress and . . . above all . . . preserving and surviving in their small part of this world today.
Their steel backbone has closed but, above all, there is still hope for a brighter future . . . the town displays both an aspiration and inspiration that things will change for the better.
Film-maker Dan Dewsbury, of 72 Films, took a year to direct this masterpiece . . . and then kindly stood back to allow local folk to take charge of telling their own stories of a small seaside town. Even The Mighty Boro had a slot in this story. For that, and for completing this project, 72Films deserve grand praise.
One word describes this whole story . . . proud . . . as I am proud to have to lived there in my childhood . . . proud to return . . . proud to visit an area that is full of beauty and reflective landscapes . . . proud of My Mighty Redcar . . .
For UK TV viewers this series is still available on catchup. Go for it !
Hope you all have a grand week ahead !
