An unassuming tuft of moss...
Heavy rain all day, so little incentive for photography. But for some reason, by the time it came to half past ten, I had the urge to take a photograph, so went out with a torch and found a small patch of wet moss on the pavement outside our house. When I put it under the macro lens I realised theunassuming green cushion was made up of three common species - Great Hairy Screw-moss Syntrichia ruralis ssp ruralis, Capillary Thread-moss Bryum capillare and Red-shank Ceratodon purpureus - with possibly another Bryum tucked in for good measure. How amazing that such diversity can exist on such an apparently hostile piece of tarmac!
