Our market
This is a view of Bonnieux Market, although it is actually only the overspill. The main part is at the top of the slope and it then spreads down the slope and onto the main road and across the road. Sadly, it has become over the years really just a tourist attraction and it is no longer any good for real shopping - most of the locals will go to Apt in the morning. It’s amazing how many English and American voices you hear, I don’t know where they come from. We made a quick visit to get a few things to take home, then we left them to it and went off to Coustellet, stopping on the way to get olive oil from a guy who has his own press.
We had a lovely lunch in Coustellet and then returned here to get on with a bit of sorting out, although it was really too hot to do much. We can’t believe the weather we have had this year. One of the reasons we come at this time of year is because it is likely to be sunny for a lot of the time, but it won’t be too hot - it has been this year. Tomorrow we set off on our journey north, so we may have to get used to cooler temperatures.
Extras
- Everywhere around our house there are these small white snails - masses of them, on trees, plants, just everywhere. Apparently, what is known as the Vineyard Snail, is endemic to this area. To survive hot weather they gather on trees etc. and go into a kind of semi-hibernation.
- Then there is Lotus. I knew about Lotus biscuits, the ones you sometimes get with coffee, but Lotus in a jar was great surprise to us. When the grandchildren were in France in the summer they discovered Lotus spread and asked us to bring some back as they had nearly run out. So we will do so, though still a little bewildered by it.
