Russell

Across the water from Paihia is an island called Russell where Hugh and I took the ferry over. Russell is the original capital of New Zealand so there is a lot of history. Not much to see on the island but there were some donkeys running about! and a nice doggy who befriended us for some belly rubs, who we nicknamed russ. There were also a beautiful beach aptly named Donkey bay! and we saw "Christ church" (not in Christchurch, nz!) which is the oldest working church in New Zealand.
