Back to Portsmouth historic dockyard today, we decided to make more use of our tickets as they allow return visits for 12 months. 

We spent much of the morning at the Submarine Museum with a tour of HMS Alliance, a submarine built towards the end of the 2nd world war and later much modified for the cold war before it was decommissioned in the early 70s.  Not really practical to blip the inside, as part of a tour group ... I can only imagine what it was like in service with a full crew on board.

After that - we looked around the Jutland museum - some seriously harrowing descriptions of the battle as commanders struggled with outdated methods of e.g. damage control in the face of advances in gunnery.
