Euromillions

Here you can see part of the regeneration project of Río de la Pila that was undertaken in 2008 by the local government. This included installing travelators and escalators up the street itself (it's quite steep, but I'm not sure it lends itself to such a drastic measure) before culminating in a funicular lift to take you up the hill to General Davíla.

The project, all in all, cost 6.1 million euros, with ?700,000 from the EU. It knocked down 3 blocks of flats, displacing 15 families. It's interesting to look at the historical satellite imagery in Google Earth and see how the street has changed.

Worth it? I'd think so, it's always busy. But could be improved - the speed is slow, and at peak times there are queues of people to go up. But, on the plus side, this means that people able are more inclined to walk up the steps. This was taken just along the road from yesterday's blip, in which you can just see the bridge.
