Blip Heaven

Today was one of those days. More than 200 images, 100 of which were blip worthy. We took a 6 hour cruise on the Coorong (a large National Park, and a wetland of international significance), perfect weather, we saw seals, and SO MANY birds. Birding heaven in fact.

During the 8 years of drought this whole area was on the very brink of disaster, but two years of floods has seen the whole eco-system flushed out, and huge breeding colonies of birds re-established. Migratory species are returning, and I lost count of the different species we saw.

I chose to blip this Pied Oyster Catcher (Haematopus fuliginosus), a nice colourful bird.

Thanks so much for all your comments, stars and hearts for my Pelican, which hit the spotlight and stayed there for most of the day. I hope to catch up on comments tomorrow when we get home.

The Coorong is a 140 km long lagoon system supported by fresh water flows from the River Murray and tidal movement. Internationally known for native and migratory bird life...a place of spectacular white sand dunes, wildlife, unique flora, and aboriginal history....a place of untouched wilderness, peace and tranquility.
