On sobriety, briefly (again)

Being sober during the pre-marathon 'taper' has worked fairly well. I've had drinks on four evenings - social occasions all - but by and large I've been able to stick to the low alcohol beers (low alcohol wine being pointless, as far as I'm concerned).

I've found a handful of enjoyable beers: Brewdog's Nanny Stay; Freedamm; Flat Tyre; Pure Brew; and Budweiser's Prohibition. All fine if served from the fridge. They serve the ritual of popping something open on getting in from work, which is a big part of it for me.

For the most part, I actually enjoy the evenings when I don't drink: I get more done, I feel great in the mornings and generally better during the day, plus it's much easier to lose weight (a couple of kilos in the last fortnight). I just wish I wasn't so all or nothing: I'd like to be that guy who can have a couple of glasses of wine and put the cork back in.
