The Wells of Silverdale.

The autumn has come but the spring is here too.

Piped water supplies did not arrive in the village of Silverdale until 1938.
Before that all the residents had to collect their water from five wells which were situated around the village. These were filled by rain water. The rain fell onto the limestone hills behind the village. The hills had no streams because the water fell into crevices in the rock. It travelled underground and eventually reappeared as springs on the flat land round the village where it formed the wells on which the villagers relied.
My picture shows the water coming out of the overhead rock and filling the one called Wood Well.
