Bighorn Sheep do not like traffic!
That’s what we were told by the ranger in Zion NP yesterday, so today on our way out east on the fabulous scenic highway 9, I’m scouting the high rocky mesas for these animals that have feet like suction cups. Oh oh, traffic is stopping. For a herd of about 12 who calmly, but a bit nervously cross the highway. Thru the windshield of course so sorry about the reflection. We stopped at Bryce NP briefly... the extra photo is at the rainbow end... 9000 ft. ( we weren’t there long,) I chose it for the fire burning, the color, the hoodoo rock formations being eroded away slowly and the expansive view of some of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National monument Landscape where we are headed in the ever so scenic hwy 12. Stopped at a visitor center near Escalante that told how these sheep were being reintroduced to this area as they were identified in ancient pictographs as living here in the past. An experiment. I could write so much about this area and the vast and varied geologic and historic phenomena that are being studied and saved ... but just Very recently that terrible man in the White House has reduced the size of this federally protected land. You can google it if interested... This needs to be stopped! Now we are in the town of Escalante in a lovely new inn with adjacent restaurant. with a view out the back door ( 2nd extra). Day #10 of our road trip... we’re just really getting into it! :-).
Thank you so much for all the stars and hearts and comments for antelope canyon a few days ago sending it unbelievably ( for me) way up to popular.
