Misstrike

The Bridge cafe was quite busy and, now that there are only two of us to make the drinks and toast and serve, we have to be on our toes. I had a clock ready to return but, when I picked it up, it began to strike continuously. I had to partially dismantle it and discovered that the gathering pallet had come a little loose and moved a millimetre away from the brass plate.  The gathering pallet is the metal piece that rests against a pin on the rack hook (on the right of the photo) when striking has stopped.  The other side of the gathering pallet to the left of the rack hook rotates and gathers up the teeth of the rack (the brass teeth of which are just visible) when striking. The clearances are very small, less than a millimetre.
