Burnt offering

No, this is not a map of the coast of Africa. It is the remains of the red cabbage that I was boiling for my dinner tonight. It is about the third time I've done this recently - put on a pan of something to boil, left it to go and surf the internet, "just for a minute", and then wondered what the smell is about 20 minutes later! Luckily, it didn't require too much scrubbing to get the pan clean again, but I really must remember to put on the timer next time I leave the kitchen in the middle of cooking.
