Autumn colour

Colourful masses of Sulphur Tufts (Hypholoma fasciculare ) fruiting on fallen trees and decaying stumps are a common sight in late summer and autumn.
This wood-rotting fungus  tackles deciduous hardwoods as well as conifers, although it is most effective in rotting broadleaf trees , which generally have a higher cellulose content and rather lower lignin content than conifers.
Although only very rarely fatal, poisoning by  is occasionally reported and it can result in severe symptoms, including not only stomach pains and nausea but also temporary paralysis and distorted vision.
