Wound up in Wexford

Autumn colours

The two trees featuring in this photo were in the garden when we moved in. We've had to design the far end of the garden around them - it's not ideal to have trees in a meadow area. But we never seriously considered chopping them down. The acer has lovely colours, and the conifer is a lovely green, and attractive form.

When we moved in, there were a number of other conifers, scattered in a way that to us felt quite haphazard - apparently the intention was to make a secret area. But they were not where we wanted them. And they weren't attractive or different enough to be worth the hassle of moving. Some of these we sacrificed early, some we worked round at first. But this summer, after consider debate, the last 4 went - two chopped down completely, the other two left as bare trunks to attach trellis for climbers.

It's been a delightful autumnal day. I walked to the GP surgery to get my clips removed, and trudged much more slowly home. But I was pleased to have made it. After resting for a while, I've also cleared the last of the ironing.

W spent a good deal of the day fitting guttering to one side of the workshop shed. A trip to B&Q was needed to get some fixings.
