Cape Barren Geese

Today I was creeping up a step at a time towards a group of Cape Barren Geese (Cereopsis novaehollandiae), on Hindmarsh Island near Goolwa. I got some interesting group photos and then the birds decided I had come close enough and they took off.

I kept on shooting and these two made an interesting blip - my only wish, with hindsight, was for a slightly faster shutter speed.

They are only found in southern Australia, and their wing span is just under 1 metre and they made a magnificent sight in flight. See bigger wings in large.

Paladian has already explained that this internet connection is cripplingly slow, so I'll have to do comments when we get back to Adelaide on Thursday.
