Early light on the road to Montemignaio in the High Casentino.

Started splitting acacia logs which split very sweetly. Then made another 8 jars of fig chutney.

Weather remains hot and humid. Distant lightning over the Apennine divide in the Tiber valley . Hoping for refreshing downpours on the parched land tomorrow.

Hunting season started today. Two hunters whistling their dogs through the dense woodland adjacent to us after very sparse pheasants. Migrant woodcock arrive mid October from Bielorussia etc. This area apparently a favourite location for these lovely birds.
