Santa Maria Novella
First full day in Florence. We walked for a bit to see the usual tourist sights and then hit Santa Maria Novella. A stones throw from the more popular attractions but full of wonderful Renaissance art.
The blip is of Masaccio’s Trinity, a fresco painted in the 1420’s. It’s an early example of the use of classical architecture and perspective. The whole basilica, cloisters and museum is stunning and we spent nearly 2 hours walking round. After that retreated to have a drink and pizza.
