Paua Puzzle

Why was this woodlouse lying belly up in a paua shell? (You might know the shell as abalone). A virtual prize to the person with the best answer.

It lay there without moving so much as a leg as I took a couple of shots. However, when I flipped it over onto its feet it ran away with amazing speed.
