Suburban fishing

This heron was sitting in the tree outside our window, watching the neighbour's pond. I couldn't believe my luck in getting this photo. I had seen it sitting in the same spot a couple of days ago when I actually had my big camera in my hand but, in the time it took me to get the lens cap off, it had flown away. 

When I saw it there again today, I grabbed a photo with my phone, then ran down two flights of stairs to get my camera. It was still there! I even had time to switch lenses so this was taken with my telephoto lens. 

It flew off, then perched on a tree further away (see extras) before flying away without any fish.
