Wetherspoon’s “The John Fielding”.
Wetherspoon’s pub in Cwmbran is named after local hero John Fielding V.C. Not content with winning the Victoria Cross for his part in the defence of Rorke’s Drift, Fielding tried to re-enlist in 1914. When his local recruiting office (understandably) refused him due to his age, he petitioned the War Office directly. Eventually he was allowed to re-enlist in a non-combatant role and he served as a Recruiting Officer throughout the war.
