William R. Whitaker House (established 1876)

While winding down east Bradenton streets near the river, today, I passed a wonderful house and yard which by Florida standards is quite old. Portions of the house were built in 1876, and it is still being lived in today. It has a charming old Florida feel and you can tell it is lovingly cared for. The historical marker indicated it was built by the first white settler to the area, who relocated from Sarasota. The Manatee River had a good bit of merchant traffic and the old Braidentown district was an area that was occupied and thrived during that time. There are many old oaks in the area and still some charming homes remain! I had not seen this street before so it came as a welcome suprise to me.
