The Ruskin Rooms

A circular walk around Tatton Park this afternoon, starting and finishing in Knutsford.

The town has some very odd buildings, the work of Richard Harding Watt and his architect Walter Aston. The Ruskin Recreation and Reading Rooms opened in 1902. A plaque on a wall explains it has been a Fire Station and the HQ of the British Legion, and was substantially renovated in 1977.

It is now empty and looking very sad. It looks as if it needs a lot of TLC

A stone plaque at first floor level says:
“Let every dawn of morning
Be to you as the beginning of
Life and every setting sun
Be to you as it’s close” (John Ruskin)

Who would dream of putting that on a building in 2018 ?
