How to horrify a prize winning author

Last night the author Ross Raisin came to talk to us. He was amazing - I’ve read two of this novels : Gods Own Country which won him all sorts of prizes straight out of University, and A Natural. He’s definitely a ‘literary’ author. He read a piece he’d just written for his new novel with a 53 year old woman as the protagonist - an interesting choice for a youngish man. He stayed the evening drinking wine and talking. One thing he said stuck with me: he said everyone should keep a notebook because for years and even decades later the material will be useful. He was horrified when he heard I was going to throw mine away.
