Dunquin Pier: Dingle 3

Today, after another enormous breakfast, we decided to do the Slea Head drive first stopping off to inspect some huge cigar shaped Ogham stones (ancient Irish writing) Ventry Strand was looking magnificent - it is here that Finn McCool defeated the King of the World! We decided to do a walk and followed part of a Pilgrims Way, encountering a ginormous ram, a carved stone and a bit of weather. On towards Dunquin, first looking out towards the Skellings, all shimmering and remote. Dunquin is famous for its teeny and winding pier. It is incredible, Not so long ago an unfortunate tourist decided to drive down it and got so stuck he had to spend the night wedged! A visit to an amazing Prehistory Museum, in private ownership and with the most comprehensive collection;  an old oratory with many interesting crosses and finally back to Dingle for supper. Oh, and the Blasket Centre - excellent, and where another wedding was going on! Murphy's ice cream shop was open to day - a scoop of brown bread and one of raspberry sorbet for me (you have to have two scoops, it;s the rules). And I liked this wee dog who obviously knew where his master was.
