Olympic Stadium

It may not have the impressive structures we saw in London 2012 or Rio 2016 but there is something rather special about being in the original Olympic Stadium and imagining the 40,000 people that it held cheering you on.

This morning we toured Olympia. It was great to see the original stadium but whilst there aren't a lot of buildings next to the track itself as you can imagine, being the Olympic Games there were plenty of other structures in the 'Olympic Village'. Training grounds, accommodation, gymnasium, temples, changing rooms and monuments. All very interesting; I've added an extra of the Philippeion built by Philip 2nd of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great, who built this temple to his family honour in the most strategic of positions in the site, where everyone had to pass it by wherever they were going, and the only round building on the site. Later we visited the museum before another large lunch. Did I mention they are providing roughly twice the food we can manage?

This afternoon we drove down to Pylos on the coast of the Aegean where we have a room overlooking the bay and the luxury of a two night stop.
