Coronation Stone - Kingston-upon-Thames Town Hall
The Coronation Stone
According to tradition this stone was used during the ceremony of coronation by seven saxon kings of England, who were crowned at Kingston-upon-Thames:
8/6/900 - Edward the Elder
4/9/925 - Athelstan
940 - Edmund
16/8/946 - Edred
Jan 956 - Edwy
975 - Edward the Martyr
14/4/979 - Ethelred II the Unready
The stone was formerly housed within the Saxon chapel of St.Mary, which adjoined the parish church to the south which collapsed in 1730.
