Today is my big sister's birthday. She was diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago, had an operation, chemo, five years of drugs and now she's been clear for five years, which sort of makes every birthday really great. Aging is a privilege.

Which kind of brings me to Gaza. I worked in Jerusalem for three years covering the conflict during the worst years of the second intifada. To this loss of life again on both sides - for no reason - is just heartbreaking and frustrating.
