Lacock Abbey

We visited here today and these are the impressive cloisters from the 1500’s.
We had a look round the village first and it was very impressive and so old. Various shows have been filmed here such as ‘Cranford’ and also parts of the Harry Potter movies. We had lunch in an old pub, which was pretty good and I enjoyed a bitter shandy. We also visited the church, which was very interesting and had a brass of a man and his wife with their eighteen children (how did someone survive that?!!)

It then started to rain a bit, so we headed to the National Trust cafe for a cup of tea. Then we walked to Lacock Abbey and had a look at the photography display relating to Fox Talbot, who took his first successful photo in the 1840’s. There were some amazing old cameras on display there - and the exhibition is going to get bigger and better due to lottery funding apparently. We may go back next year! The abbey itself was very interesting and the many adaptations made to it over the centuries since it ceased being a nunnery in the mid 1500’s were explained well. We then went back to the cafe and had a huge ice cream each!

It rained on and off all day, but was still nice and warm.

Back in our lovely bungalow now and planning a walk into Bath for tomorrow (and possibly the next day as well, depending on how much we want to do).
