Sgwarnog: In the Field

Decline

I've probably seen only a couple of dozen Small Tortoiseshell this year, since my first back in March. Up until 2016 I'd expect to see that many in a day but a steep decline in numbers has set in and locally there's no sign of a recovery yet. So an individual like this is a pleasure to encounter. It had a Comma and Red Admiral to keep it company in the Community Garden.

Earlier, I saw half a dozen Small White and a single Speckled Wood on campus.
