'Blue Jenny'
When walking through towns I find that if you 'look up' you will usually see something interesting or unusual.
I spotted this carving in Crocker Street in our County Town high above the doorway of number 62. After some research I found that the figure is a replica of 'Blue Jenny' a girl in school uniform carrying a bible and coin.
The figure is a reminder of the Newportt Blue School Foundation, a charity school founded in 1761 for the free education of 26 local girls. The school has long since closed but the foundation hands out bursaries to this day.
