Great Laxby Wheel - back blip
Today we caught the Electric Tram to Laxby - an interesting ride and the line was opened in 1893. Arriving at Laxby we made our way up to the Wheel. this is an impressive structure
The Great Laxey Wheel or Lady Isabella (as she is also known) is the largest working waterwheel in the world. A brilliant example of Victorian engineering she was built in 1854 to pump water from the Laxey mines. Today a climb to the top is rewarded with panoramic views across the Laxey Valley.
After our visit we caught the tram to Ramsey - had coffee and a cake and then had a look around the harbour and then the rain came - we made our way back to the tram and had a soggy walk back to the hotel in Douglas - we had a quick change and then down for a drink (or two) and then dinner.
