Old gig tickets - Andrew Cronshaw

So, it was 28 years ago today that I went to see the great British zither and flute player Andrew Cronshaw at the Purcell Room. If you don't know Cronshaw's work, it is full of dark, mysterious, soulful folk tunes, lots of eastern and Scandinavian influences, lots of space to breathe in the soundscapes. 

For me this is chiefly memorable for being the one and only gig (so far) where I've been singled out for comment from the stage. After a couple of tunes, Cronshaw surveyed the (admittedly rather sparse) crowd. He said "Thank you all for coming. It's great to be here with so many friendly, familiar faces. And" -now staring directly at me- "one new face!". Almost as if he was in the business of collecting fans personally, he made a point aftre the show of clambering down off the stage for a chat, and we had quite a discussion about DJ Mike Spartow (on whose BBC London show I'd first heard Cronshaw's work). Nice man.
