Cheddar Gorge

I visited Cheddar Gorge today along with the local Geology Group.  I hadn't been here for a very long time and had forgotten what it was like.   Such an impressive gorge which is very difficult to capture on camera, it almost seemed like a different country as the surrounding countryside is fairly typical rolling hills and heathland areas.  We spent some time spotting coral fossils in a nearby quarry area and then headed off to three other locations one of which is where mining for lead took place and another to view a very steep anticline bedding plane.

Yesterday the cycling Tour of Britain passed through, now that would have made a great photo.

An interesting day out with much better weather than forecast.  See extra for a scene I spotted in Cheddar thinking it would be suitable for the title of 'waiting' that I had been given as part of the camera club summer challenge, however its seems it is outside the date frame which finished yesterday.
