An Unexpected End To The Day

It’s very unusual for me to see a sunset at Heathrow since all of my flights are daytime flights, with afternoon flights being my favourite.

I had several weeks off this summer and today was the day I finally went back to work. I was due to go to Chicago. I got to work about 1pm and after briefing went to the plane and soon after that the passengers came on board. Unfortunately not long after that it was discovered that something was not working. The maintenance team tried several different things over the next few hours but finally the flight had to cancel as they soon realised that the fix would take long enough that both pilots and flight attendants would run out of hours.

It’s never an easy decision to make and everyone is inconvenienced, but better to have everything working when you’re crossing an ocean at 38,000’!

So I found myself back at the car park just in time for the sunset. Thankfully this plane came along and provided me with a good picture for my blip today!

They’ve had to reassign me right away as we’re very short staffed this weekend and I’m now due to head off to Washington DC tomorrow afternoon. Sadly, working into my day off on Tuesday. All part of the flexibility required of us!
