The best way to enter Sheffield is either from the west, descending with magnificent views from the Peak District, or by train, where you spill out from a fairly unremarkable station into Sheaf Square. Someone wrote to the local paper complaining about the waste of money in "doing up" the square, which consists of a series of stunning water features, including an enormous blade to ensure you are in no doubt you have arrived in Steel City, but this person should spend time there - as lots of people do, taking photographs, and generally enjoying the spectacle. this is a small snippet of one of the water features, which I took today as I was down there to collect some train tickets for next week....
