Friars Crag
From the weather forecasts we looked at before we came here we expected this week to be cloudy at best and at worst pouring with rain. Today was another beautiful sunny day so we feel very lucky.
We set off late morning for Maryport. We wanted to see the sea and Igor wanted to go to the Roman Museum (yes another one!) up on the hill just out of the town. Unfortunately the museum seemed to be closed so there was nothing for it but to feed our faces with fish and chips which we ate sitting on the sea wall.
We left Maryport and headed inland to Keswick. We wanted to go to Friars Crag at Derwent Water and decided to go via Whinlatter Pass following the route of tomorrow’s Tour of Britain team time trial. We were surprised that although there were signs announcing that the road will be closed tomorrow there wasn’t much evidence of preparation. They must sort it all out overnight. The race starts here in Cockermouth and we’re hoping to see some of it from the end of the road here.
Oh and the view from Friars Crag was beautiful. Truly spectacular.
