Winter Visitors.
We had a pleasant surprise early this morning. At first light we went down the wood with the Rona & Isla (aka the Dynamic Duo) and saw a considerable number of birds gathered in a rowan tree and on the telephone wires adjacent. Initially we thought they were starlings but on closer inspection they turned out to be waxwings. MaggieD counted at least 70 birds tucking in to the red berries on that hawthorn. They were still around when we came back but had moved on by the time eight muddy spaniel paws had been washed clean enough to let them back into the house.
We will need to keep an eye open for them in the future and try to take some better photos of them.
