Lake Wenatchee
This is a wonderful example of a glacially carved valley which is now Lake Wenatchee. I think it is so beautiful and the water was as flat as glass; so peaceful there. It is also legendary for the mosquitoes in early summer so we've been holding off going to see it.
Today was supposed to be our rest day but we logged over 8 miles just doing touristy stuff. First we walked some on the Apple Capital Loop trail which runs along the Columbia River in Wenatchee. And we walked around the old downtown section, followed by a drive up to the Rocky Reach hydroelectric power plant, about 5 miles north of Wenatchee. They put a great deal of effort into making it navigable by the fish that spawn in the Columbia (mostly salmon and steelhead). The extra shows part of the fish ladder. You could go even go down some stairs and look through the windows and see the occasional fish swim by (it's not high season for them right now though). Very interesting engineering marvel.
After lunch we drove out to the lake and took a short walk around before driving back to Leavenworth (where we are staying).
Tomorrow, we are planning to hike to Colchuck Lake which is in the same area as the hike we did yesterday. It's harder, more elevation gain and longer, but I think I can do it.
Thanks for visiting my journal, I am getting behind in visiting your journals but will catch up...
